Present Simple dan Present Continious

Present simple : sebuah kalimat yang digunakan bila ingin menyampaikan suatu gagasan yang bersifat rutinitas atau terjadi setiap saat.

Rumus : S + Verb 1

Penggunaan :

v  We use the present simple to talk about repeated action or habit (Kita menggunakan Present Simple untuk membicarakan tentang perbuatan yang berulang atau biasanya)

Example :

I have shower every morning                    (Saya mandi setiap pagi)

Most evening my parents stay at home and watch tv      (Setiap malam orangtua saya tinggal di rumah dan menonton tv)

Do you go to the cinema very often ?         (Apakah kamu sangat sering ke bioskop)

What time does Tukul finish work ?            (Jam berapa Tukul selesai bekerja)

v  We use the present simple to talk about situations which are permanent ( Continuing for a long time) (Kita menggunakan present simple untuk membicarakan tentang situasi yang permanent)

Example :

Mr and Mrs. Olga live in Makassar  (Tuan dan Nyonya Olga tinggal di Makassar)

I don’t live in London. I live in Manchester (Saya tidak tinggal di London. Saya tinggal di Manchester)

v  We also use the present simple to talk about general truths (Kita juga menggunakan present simple untuk membicarakan tentang kebenaraan yang umum)

  
Example :

               

 The river amazon flows into Atlantic Ocean (Sungai amazon mengalir masuk ke samudra Antlantik)

 The world is round  (Bumi berputar)

Vegetarians don’t eat meat or fish ( Vegetarian tidak memakan daging atau ikan)

               

                Kunci dalam present simple biasanya ada kata :

*Every                                  *Always

*Most                                   *Usually

*Very

*Often

Present Continous : sebuah kalimat yang menerangkan suatu kejadian yang sedang berlangsung pada saat kita mengatakannya.

Rumus : S + To be + Verb I

Penggunaan Present Continous 

v  We use Present Continous to talk about something which is in progress at the moment of speaking (Kita menggunakan Present Continous untuk membicarakan tentang suatu kejadian yang sedang berlangsung pada saat berbicara)

                Example :

·         I need umbrella because it is raining outside (Saya butuh paying karena di depan sedang hujan)

·         They are playing football in rice field ( Mereka sedang bermain bola di sawah)

·         I am not watching tv right now (Saya sedang tidak menonton tv sekarang)

v  We use Present Continous to talk about something which is in progress around the present, but not necessarily exactly at the moment of speaking ( Kita menggunakan Present Continous untuk membicarakan tentang kejadian yang disekitar sekarang, tapi belum tentu terjadi pada saat berbicara)

Example :

·         You are spending a lot of money these day (Kamu mengahabiskan banyak uang hari ini)

·         Sue is looking for a job at the moment (Sue saat ini sedang mencari pekerjaan saat ini)

v  We use Present Continous to talk about something which is in progress for a limited period a round the present ( Kita menggunakan Present Continous untuk membicarakan tentang kejadian untuk periode terbatas di sekitar sekarang)

               

Example :

·         Robert is on holiday this week. He is staying with his sister in London  (Robert sedang berlibur minggu ini. Dia tinggal dengan saudarinya di London)

·         Bean and Brad Pitt are di London on holiday. They are staying at small hotel near Hyde Park.

(Bean dan Brad Put sedang berlibur di London. Mereka tinggal di hotel yang kecil dekat dari Taman Hyde)
